06.03.2023 Ι On March 22, 2023, the opening ceremony of the Water Graduate School (WGS) will take place at the Glaspavillon Campus Essen. The event is organized by the Zentrum für Wasser- und Umweltforschung (ZWU) of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Aim of the Water Graduate School is to create a comprehensive structured program for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in water research at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The event is located in the ZWU and in the profile focus „Water Research“. Thus, the WGS will be open to all doctoral and postdoctoral researchers working on water-related research topics.
Water Graduate School with different topics
In addition to the overall topic „water“, all members will be divided into three different core arears of research depending on their research topic (water quality; urban water cycle; or biodiversity). This will allow specific offers based on the topic (e.g., workshops, summerschools etc.).
The Water Graduate School Program
All postdoctoral researchers also have the option to choose a so-called „focus“ (supervision; teaching; or project management). This gives them the opportunity to be optimally prepared for their further career path through special offers (e.g., soft skill workshops, mentoring, etc.). Well-established training structures (e.g., GC-Plus, RAR, etc.) will be complemented with innovative new ideas.
From science into practice
This structures will be based on a „training program“ already implemented in the IRTG of the CRC RESIST 1439. It will include an (interdisciplinary) supervisory team consisting of two academic mentors and one non-academic mentor.
All members of the Water Graduate School will have access to and benefit from the excellent network of the ZWU. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers interested in becoming a member of the WGS can contact Vanessa Kramer for further information.
