30.05.2023 Ι The European project sea4value aims to recover minerals and metals from the brine extracted in desalination plants. This video focuses on explaining how to obtain the mineral Gallium which is a Critical Raw Material according to the definition of the European Commission – from seawater brines in a multi-step process.

Different extraction technologies

Different mineral and metal extraction technologies will be developed and later validated in a moving lab within an ocean setting with real brines. The technical project manager of Sea4value, Dr. Sandra Meca Fàbrega, Head of Waste and Circular Economy Line at Fundació EURECAT, will explain the required technological steps. In this case, nanofiltration followed by extraction through a polymer inclusion membrane.
