Veolia and Solvay have inaugurated a new unit through their joint subsidiary Resolest, aimed at increasing the recycling capacity for industrial flue gas treatment residues at the Rosières-aux-Salines site in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.
Capacity Expansion to Support Circular Ambitions
The new unit is a milestone in the site’s development and will enable Resolest to increase its processing capacity by up to 50% annually. This extension builds on the momentum initiated in 2024. Moreover, it continues the partners’ efforts to promote circular solutions in industrial waste management.
Local Loop for Salt Recovery
For over two decades, the Rosières-aux-Salines has specialized in the recovery of salts from residues generated during flue gas treatment with sodium bicarbonate. These salts are extracted and converted into purified brine, which is then used by Solvay’s Dombasle plant in the production of sodium carbonate. This process forms a localized production loop where industrial waste is transformed into alternative resources. This enables the preservation of natural materials.
Inauguration with Regional Stakeholders
The facility was inaugurated in the presence of regional and national representatives, including Senator Jean-François Husson and MP Thibault Bazin. As well as local mayors and other partners from institutions, industry and academia.
Industry Statements
“For more than twenty years, Resolest has been a pioneer in the valorisation of material from residues deemed non-valorisable. With this extension, we are reinforcing our ability to produce reusable industrial salts, and to actively contribute to the preservation of natural resources,” stated Jean-Michel Frada, Directeur de Resolest.
“At Solvay, we firmly believe in the potential of the circular economy for a more sustainable future. The expansion of Resolest, in partnership with Veolia, is tangible proof of this commitment and our desire to transform challenges into opportunities”, commented Etienne Galan, President of Solvay Soda Ash & Derivatives.
“The circular industry that we are helping to build every day alongside our partners, and notably Solvay, here in the Grand Est region, is not just a response to environmental challenges; it is a promise of innovation and efficiency where every solution is designed to create new resources and sustainable value for our customers and for the territories. It is a guarantee of competitiveness and sovereignty, for which Veolia now deploys all its expertise”, added Jean-François Nogrette, Director of Veolia Zone France and Special Waste Europe.
